************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 107 January 25, 2007 ************************************************************************ Journees 2007 - First Announcement The Journees 2007 "Systemes de reference spatio-temporels", with the sub-title "The Celestial Reference Frame for the Future", will be organized on 17-19 September 2007 (Monday to Wednesday), at Paris Observatory (on its Meudon site), France. Scientific Organizing Committee ------------------------------- A. Brzezinski, Poland; N. Capitaine, France (Chair); P. Defraigne, Belgium; T. Fukushima, Japan; D.D. McCarthy, USA; M. Soffel, Germany; J. Vondrak, Czech R.; Ya. Yatskiv, Ukraine Local Organizing Committee -------------------------- P. Baudoin, O. Becker, C. Bizouard, S. Bouquillon, D. Gambis (Chair), A-M. Gontier, S. Lambert, J. Souchay Scientific objectives --------------------- The main purpose of these series of international meetings is to provide a forum for discussion of researchers in the fields of celestial and terrestrial reference systems, Earth rotation, astrometry and time. The Journees 2007 will be focused on the issues related to the recent developments, perspectives of future realizations and scientific applications of the Celestial Reference Frame. There will be presentations and discussions related to the new Division 1 Commission 52 "Relativity in Fundamental astronomy", IAU Working Groups on "Numerical standards in Fundamental astronomy" and "The second realization of the ICRF" that have been established at the 26th IAU GA, and the IERS Working Groups on "The second realization of the ICRF" and "Prediction". The recent evolution in the concepts, terminology, models and results in fundamental astronomy will be discussed, as well as topics related to the geophysical excitation of Earth rotation. There will be a special session dedicated to nutation in relation both with the "Descartes nutation" project and the 30-year anniversary of the IAU Colloquium No 78 on "Nutation and the Earth's rotation" that was organized in Kiev in 1977. The web page of the Journees 2007 will be available shortly at: http://syrte.obspm.fr/journees2007/ for providing the scientific program, practical information and on-line pre-registration. The Call for papers and instructions for submitting an abstract will be posted shortly. Information concerning the history of the Journees and details about the latest conference in this series will also be available on this web page. Preliminary Scientific programme -------------------------------- Session 1. Plans for the new ICRF - Progress in the 2d realization of ICRF - Connecting the new ICRF to other wavelengths - Connecting the dynamical reference frame to the new ICRF - Gaia and the new ICRF - Analysis of VLBI data for the realization of the new ICRF Session 2. Models and Numerical standards in Fundamental astronomy - Models incorporated in the new ICRF - Numerical standards in Fundamental astronomy - Recent models in Fundamental astronomy - Special sub-session on nutation Session 3: Relativity in Fundamental astronomy - Relativistic considerations for the new ICRF - Issues addressed by IAU Commission 52 Session 4: Prediction of Earth Orientation - Report of the IERS Working Group on Prediction - Geophysical excitation of Earth rotation - Prediction algorithms - Advances in EOP combination Contact ------- Nicole Capitaine, SYRTE, Observatoire de Paris, 61, avenue de l'Observatoire, 75014, Paris, France; phone : 33 1 40 51 22 31; fax : 33 1 40 51 22 91; e-mail : n.capitaine@obspm.fr (For any e-mail related to the Journees 2007, please use the subject "Journees 2007") Journees 2007 web page address ------------------------------ The web page of the Journees 2007 will be available at: http://syrte.obspm.fr/journees2007/ (by the end of January 2007) Additional information ---------------------- The Proceedings of the Journees 2004 and 2005 are available on electronic form, at: http://syrte.obspm.fr/journees2004/, and http://jsr2005.cbk.waw.pl (or http://syrte.obspm.fr/journees2005/), respectively.
