************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 128 March 13, 2008 ************************************************************************ Journees 2008 - First Announcement The Journees 2008 "Systemes de reference spatio-temporels" and Xth Lohrmann-Kolloquium, with the sub-title "Astrometry, Geodynamics and Astronomical Reference Systems", will be organized on 22-24 September 2008 (Monday to Wednesday) at Lohrmann Observatory, Dresden, Germany. Scientific Organizing Committee ------------------------------- A. Brzezinski, Poland; N. Capitaine, France (Co-Chair); P. Defraigne, Belgium; T. Fukushima, Japan; S.A. Klioner (Germany); D.D. McCarthy, USA; M. Soffel, Germany (Chair); J. Vondrak, Czech R.; Ya. Yatskiv, Ukraine Local Organizing Committee -------------------------- L. Graefe, R. Langhans, A. Theuser (Chair), S. Zschocke Scientific objectives --------------------- The main purpose of these series of international meetings is to provide a forum for discussion of researchers in the fields of celestial and terrestrial reference systems, Earth rotation, astrometry, geodynamics and time. The Journees 2008 will be focused on the issues related to the recent developments in astronomical reference systems, interrelation of modern astrometry and Earth orientation, numerical standards and their relativistic aspects, and modelling and observations of global geodynamical processes. There will be presentations and discussions related to the Division 1 Commission 52 "Relativity in Fundamental astronomy" and IAU Working Groups, such as "Numerical standards in Fundamental astronomy" and "The second realization of the ICRF". Oral and poster presentations proposals are encouraged on the following topics: - Modern Astrometry and Earth Orientation, - Relativity and Numerical Standards in Fundamental Astrometry, - Global Geodynamical Modelling, - Observations of Global Geodynamics, - Developments in Astronomical Reference Frames. Practical information and submission of abstracts ------------------------------------------------- The web page of the Journees 2008 is available at http://astro.geo.tu-dresden.de/journees2008/index.htm and contains On-line registration, call for papers and instructions for submitting an abstract will be posted shortly. Preliminary Scientific programme -------------------------------- Session 1. Modern Astrometry and Earth Orientation - the relativistic reference systems as tools to model Earth rotation - astrometric models for high accurate observations Session 2. Relativity and Numerical Standards in Fundamental Astronomy - recent developments in numerical standards - relativistic consistency of astronomical constants Session 3: Global Geodynamical Modelling - status and current development in modelling EOP variations - geophysical interpretation of the EOP Session 4: Observations of Global Geodynamics - comparison and combination of EOP observations from different techniques - integration of space geodetic techniques Session 5: Developments in Astronomical Reference Frames - recent developments in the 2th realization of the ICRF - realizations of the celestial reference system at different wavelengths - dynamical realizations of the celestial reference system Contact ------- Michael Soffel, Lohrmann Observatory, Dresden Technical University, Mommsenstr. 13, 01062 Dresden, Germany; phone: 49 351 4633 4200; fax : 49 351 4633 7019; e-mail: Michael.Soffel@tu-dresden.de or: e-mail: journees2008@astro.geo.tu-dresden.de and/or Nicole Capitaine, SYRTE, Observatoire de Paris, 61, avenue de l'Observatoire, 75014, Paris, France; phone: 33 1 40 51 22 31; fax: 33 1 40 51 22 91; e-mail: n.capitaine@obspm.fr (For any e-mail related to the Journees 2008, please use the subject "Journees 2008") Nicole Capitaine on behalf of the SOC of the Journees 2008 ************************************************************************ IERS Messages are edited and distributed by the IERS Central Bureau.
