************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 196 October 26, 2011 ************************************************************************ Scientist Positions in Geodetic Reference Systems at DGFI The Deutsches Geodaetisches Forschungsinstitut (DGFI) invites two applications for a Scientist Position (f/m) in Geodetic Reference Systems The positions are limited initially to 3 years. Salary is according to TV-L E13. The preferred starting data is 1 December 2011. Background / Tasks DGFI participates with two projects in the DFG Research Unit "Space-time Reference Systems for Monitoring Global Change and for Precise Navigation". For each project a full-time position with the following major tasks is available: a) Refined methods for the combination of the space geodetic observations (VLBI, SLR, GNSS) for the computation of consistent terrestrial and celestial reference frames shall be developed and implemented. It is a joint project of DGFI and Bundesamt fuer Kartographie und Geodaesie. b) Sensitivity analysis of the satellite systems (primarily SLR and GNSS) with respect to the realization of the geodetic datum and development of adequate combination strategies, which allows for an optimal exploitation of the technique-specific strengths. It is a joint project of DGFI and the Institut fuer Astronomische und Physikalische Geodaesie of the Technische Universitaet Muenchen. Qualifications Applicants should hold a university degree in geodesy - with grades clearly above average. Substantial interest and the ability to combine theory and practice in the fields of geodesy and geophysical modeling are required. In addition, applicants should have experience in the solution of numerically demanding problems. A solid knowledge of the English language is required. Finally, the ability and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team is expected as well as a proactive attitude. DGFI is an equal opportunity / affirmative action employer and encourages applications from female candidates. Handicapped applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualifications.
