************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 247 April 08, 2014 ************************************************************************ Meeting of the IAU/IAG Joint Working Group on Theory of Earth Rotation In 2013 IAU and IAG created a JWG on Theory of Earth Rotation, composed of three Sub-WG: 1. Precession and nutation 2. Polar Motion and UT1 3. Numerical solutions and validation Its purpose is to promote the development of theories of Earth rotation that are fully consistent and that agree with observations and provide predictions of the Earth rotation parameters (ERPs) with the accuracy required to meet the needs of the near future as recommended by, e.g., GGOS, the Global Geodetic Observing System of the IAG. Terms of Reference and additional information are available at the JWG website http://web.ua.es/en/wgther/ A Splinter Meeting of the IAU/IAG JGW ThER will be held at the next EGU in Vienna. It appears in the program labelled as SPM1.49, and it's scheduled on Monday, 28 Apr, 10:30-12:00 / Room Y3. It will be open to all interested EGU attendants. The preliminary agenda is: 10:30 - 10:40 Welcome (J. Ferrandiz and R. Gross) 10:40 - 11:00 Presentation on SWG1 Activities (J. Getino) 11:00 - 11:20 Presentation on SWG2 Activities (A. Brzezinski) 11:20 - 11:40 Presentation on SWG3 Activities (R. Heinkelmann) 11:40 - 11:55 Discussion (All) 11:55 - 1200 Next meeting (Ferrandiz and Gross) The Chairs of the Sub-WG have confirmed their availability for presenting. This coming SpM is very important for the tasks of the JWG. The three SWG must work as independent units but keeping coordination, and joining them in a sole session should contribute to improve the coordination of their activities and favour fruitful discussions. If you are interested in the JWG ThER activity and are attending the EGU GA, please consider this invitation to this splinter meeting, your participation is extremely valuable. On behalf of the JWG, Jose M Ferrandiz (Chair) and Richard Gross (Vice-Chair) ************************************************************************ IERS Messages are edited and distributed by the IERS Central Bureau.
